Michigan Man Pleads No Contest to Torture Charges After Ex-Wife Testifies to Horrific Abuse

October 3, 2024

MICHIGAN: A disturbing case of domestic violence has concluded with a Michigan man pleading no contest to torture charges after his ex-wife bravely testified about the horrific abuse she suffered at his hands.

Saul Lucio-Ipina, 30, faced charges related to two incidents that occurred in the couple's basement last year. His ex-wife, who remains anonymous, recounted the traumatic events to the jury.

In January 2023, Lucio-Ipina accused her of cheating and forced her to stand on a bucket in the basement with a rope around her neck. When she slipped off, he took her down, only to repeat the abuse two months later.

During the second incident, Lucio-Ipina tied her up with rope and metal wire, suspending her in a children's swing. He then hooked jumper cables to the wire, electrocuting her repeatedly.

"Any time I would answer a question or didn't answer a question, he would zap me," she testified.

The abuse lasted five hours before Lucio-Ipina released her. She reported the incident two days later, leading to his arrest.

Kent County Assistant Prosecutor Angela Curtis described the incidents as "undoubtedly torture," stating that Lucio-Ipina's intent was to inflict maximum pain and suffering.

Lucio-Ipina pleaded no contest to two counts of torture and witness interference after the first day of testimony. A no-contest plea is treated as a guilty plea during sentencing, scheduled for October 28.
