MINNESOTA: Nichanon Kittikroekphon, a 34-year-old expectant father and rising Thai musician, was allegedly fatally shot by his cousin, Lue Chang, during a family gathering.
On Saturday, September 21, Brooklyn Park police responded to a report of a shooting and found Kittikroekphon suffering from serious gunshot injuries. Authorities determined that Chang and Kittikroekphon knew each other and were attending the celebration of births in the family.
Witness accounts revealed that Kittikroekphon and Chang were speaking in the backyard when Chang allegedly pulled out a gun and began shooting the victim. Kittikroekphon attempted to crawl away but was hit a third time. A witness reported that while holding Chang down, he asked the suspect why he carried out the alleged shooting, to which Chang replied, "Because he disrespected me."
Lue Chang, 32, was arrested and is being held on a second-degree murder charge with a $1 million bond. According to Hennepin County jail records, Chang's plea and attorney information were not immediately available.
Kittikroekphon, also known as Tswb Moua, was a beloved musician from Thailand, expecting a child with his wife in December. His family and friends remember him for his kindness, warmth, and incredible voice. Two GoFundMe campaigns have been set up to support Kittikroekphon's wife and unborn child.
Kittikroekphon's family described him as "the calm" and "the sweetest and most caring person on earth." His musical talents resonated with people far and wide, earning him the love and admiration of fans.
