Teen Sentenced to 30 Years for Killing Man Over Social Media Posts Neither Made
September 24, 2024
KENTUCKY: A teenage killer in Kentucky has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for murdering a man over social media posts that neither of them made. Jackie Turner, 18, pleaded guilty to murder in July for shooting 23-year-old Seth Burns to death on August 25, 2023.
The senseless killing stemmed from an online argument between Turner's brother's ex-girlfriend and girlfriend. Turner's family, including his mother, Amanda Turner, 39, and two sisters, Lakera Hughes and Keavier Turner, were also involved in the incident.
According to prosecutors, Amanda Turner drove the family to Burns' home, knowing her sons were armed and intending to fight. Doorbell camera footage showed her leading the group, screaming, toward Burns' residence.
When Burns exited his home, Jackie Turner shot him. The family fled the scene.
Amanda Turner pleaded guilty to facilitation of murder and was sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison. Turner's sisters and his brother's girlfriend, Emma Ryan, have also pleaded guilty to rioting and unlawful transaction with a minor.
In a heartfelt victim impact statement, Seth Burns' father, Michael Burns, emphasized his son's innocence. "He was a huge part of all of our lives, and it's a hard pill to swallow knowing that he died completely innocent."
Kenton County Circuit Judge Kathleen Lape echoed the sentiment, calling the situation "dumb" and "senseless."
Turner's older brother, Xxavion Turner, 22, is set to go on trial in November.
