Man Murders 'Twin Flame' Teen Girlfriend with Sword

September 11, 2024

MASSACHUSETTS: A 20-year-old man, Shane Curry, has been charged with murdering his teenage girlfriend, Nevaeh "River" Goddard, with a sword. The tragic incident occurred on April 5, leaving friends, family, and authorities searching for answers.

According to prosecutors, Curry's mother requested a well-being check on her son, leading police to the Great Road home. However, Curry refused to let them in for two hours, raising suspicions. Upon finally entering the home, officers found Goddard, 17, dead from stab wounds, with Curry lying next to her body.

The couple's relationship was reportedly marked by violence and control. Curry allegedly admitted to stabbing Goddard multiple times after a fight, stating, "The bruises aren't working... hitting her, that's not working, so OK, I have to knife her, so I do." He referred to Goddard as his "twin flame," a term often used to describe a deeply intense and passionate connection.

Goddard, who identified as non-binary and went by the name River, had a history of childhood abuse and time in foster care. Their grandfather described them as "a nicer, more soulful, and more spiritual person." GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis expressed heartbreak over the loss, highlighting the failures of the system to protect LGBTQ youth and victims of domestic abuse.

Curry's history of mental illness raises questions about the role of mental health in this tragic case. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of a young life and demands justice for River Nevaeh Goddard.
