Preschool Worker Accused of Abusing 3-Year-Old Boy with Autism

Gainesville, FLORIDA: A disturbing child abuse case has shaken a local preschool, sparking outrage among parents and authorities. Keoni Ellis, 28, a preschool worker, faces charges of cruelty to children without great bodily harm for allegedly pinching a 3-year-old boy with autism in the groin and pulling him by the ear.

According to an arrest report, the incident occurred on Wednesday in a classroom for children with autism. Surveillance footage shows Ellis approaching the victim, who was horsing around with another student, and pinching him in the groin/upper thigh area. The boy immediately backed away, rubbing the area in discomfort.

Approximately one minute later, Ellis grabbed the victim by the ear and shoulder, pulling him away. The child appeared to be in pain, sources say.

When questioned, Ellis claimed the child's mother gave her permission to punish him by pinching. However, after viewing the surveillance footage, Ellis denied pinching the boy, stating she merely touched him and whispered a warning.

The investigation revealed minor injuries to the child's left arm and neck. Ellis was taken to the Alachua County Jail and posted a $5,000 bond.

"This is unacceptable behavior, and we take allegations of child abuse very seriously," a spokesperson said. "We will continue to work with the Department of Children and Families to ensure the safety and well-being of all children."

The preschool has terminated Ellis's employment. Parents and caregivers of children with autism are shaken, emphasizing the importance of protecting vulnerable children.

"This is a wake-up call," a local advocate said. "We need to ensure our children are protected and those caring for them meet high standards."

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
