LAURINBURG, N.C.: A brutal shooting at a Waffle House restaurant left an 18-year-old employee dead and police scrambling to identify the killer.
Burlie Dawson Locklear, of Red Springs, was shot once inside the Scotland Crossing Drive location around 12:42 a.m. Friday. He was rushed to Scotland Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses described the suspect as a black male, approximately 5'8" to 5'10" tall, with long dreads and facial hair. He wore a blue hoodie, blue jeans, and white shoes, and fled in a dark grey sedan, possibly a 2014 Chevrolet.
According to investigators, the suspect ordered food but became increasingly agitated and verbally abusive toward employees as he waited. Once his order was ready, he walked toward his vehicle, turned, and fired two shots at the restaurant. One struck Locklear.
"We are deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence," said Laurinburg Police Chief. "Our thoughts are with the victim's family and loved ones."
Police released surveillance images of the suspect and urge anyone with information to contact Lt. J. White at 910-276-3211 or Scotland Crimestoppers anonymously.
