Amazon Driver Arrested for Hit-and-Run That Injured Mother and Baby

August 25, 2024

FLORIDA: A devastating hit-and-run incident occurred in a gated community in Aventura, Florida, leaving a mother and her infant son severely injured. The suspect, identified as Sarahy Naybeth Parra-Ovalles, a 45-year-old Amazon delivery driver, has been arrested and charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with bodily injury.

The incident took place on Thursday morning at approximately 8:30 a.m. The mother, 30, was walking her dog while pushing her infant son in a stroller. Parra-Ovalles' vehicle struck the mother and child, knocking the woman off her feet and the baby out of his stroller. Witnesses reported that Parra-Ovalles got out of her vehicle, set the stroller upright, and placed the baby back into it before fleeing the scene.

The victims were rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment. The mother suffered a skull fracture, bruising, and a brain bleed, while the baby had a cut on his forehead. Miraculously, both are recovering from their injuries.

The Miami-Dade Police launched an investigation, reviewing security footage and speaking with witnesses. They identified Parra-Ovalles as the suspect and arrested her late Friday afternoon. During questioning, Parra-Ovalles initially claimed she was making deliveries and saw the victims on the street. She alleged that the mother seemed "out of it" and placed her hands on her hood. However, when shown video evidence of the crash, Parra-Ovalles denied hitting the mother and child and invoked her Miranda rights.

An Amazon spokesperson stated that Parra-Ovalles is "no longer delivering" for the company. "This is a terrible incident, and our thoughts are with this family. We're looking into the matter and will support law enforcement as they investigate."
