Grisly Murder in Alabama: Woman Accused of Dismembering Lover with Chainsaw

ALABAMA: A shocking murder case is unfolding in Geneva County, Alabama, where a woman, Joselina Lopez, is accused of dismembering her boyfriend, Benito Guzman, with a chainsaw and leaving his body in a car. Guzman's body was discovered on Tuesday in the Fadette community, and Lopez is currently charged with first-degree murder.

According to Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms, the case is particularly challenging and complex. "I arrived at the scene and quickly realized this would be a very difficult case," he said.

Lopez allegedly used a chainsaw to dismember Guzman's body before placing it in a car. The motive behind the murder remains unknown, and neither Guzman nor Lopez had prior run-ins with the law or a history of domestic disputes.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials say it may take several months to conclude. Additional charges may be filed against Lopez pending the outcome of Guzman's autopsy, which is currently being conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Sheriff Helms noted that dismembering a body to dispose of it is unusual and rare in the county, with only one similar case in recent memory - that of Chad Brogden, who was convicted of murdering and dismembering his mother in Dale County.

Lopez is currently being held without bond, and the case is expected to go to trial, although it may take up to a year for the investigation to be completed.
