August 30, 2024
NEW HAMPSHIRE: A devastating incident unfolded early Thursday morning on the I-95 bridge linking New Hampshire and Maine, leaving three people dead. The tragedy began in Troy, New Hampshire, where a 911 call reported a domestic dispute resulting in a woman's death.
New Hampshire State Police responded to the scene and found the woman deceased. The suspect, later revealed to be the woman's husband and the father of their 8-year-old child, was tracked to Kittery, Maine, where his vehicle was found parked on the I-95 bridge.
Police attempted to negotiate with the suspect, but he exited his vehicle, raised a firearm, and was met with deadly force by a Maine State trooper and two New Hampshire troopers. The suspect fell 135 feet into the river below, and his body was recovered by the US Coast Guard.
Tragically, an 8-year-old child was found fatally shot in the back seat of the vehicle. The child's death is not associated with the police officers' use of deadly force. The three troopers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while the Maine Attorney General's Office investigates the incident.
The identities of the suspect and victims will be released once notifications have been completed. The bridge reopened to traffic just after 9:30 a.m.
