CALIFORNIA: A devastating incident has shaken the community in Oakland, California, after a mother of eight was fatally shot while protecting her children from alleged drug dealers. Maria Guadalupe Ramos Velasco, 33, was shot on August 7 near the intersection of Hilton Street and Bancroft Avenue in Oakland.

According to local news, Ramos and her mother, Blanca Velasco, had seen a suspicious vehicle parked near Velasco's house earlier that day. They believed the occupants were selling marijuana vape pens to one of Ramos' children. The pair decided to approach the vehicle and tell them to "stop coming" to the house.

Ramos got out of her mother's Toyota RAV4 to confront the suspects, and allegedly diffused pepper spray into the back of their vehicle. In response, a 16-year-old suspect allegedly shot Ramos, killing her. Her mother, who had been driving, circled back to find her daughter lying on the ground.

Prosecutors have charged Isaiah Gomez, 19, with being an accessory to the crime. Ramos leaves behind seven daughters and a son, aged between 1 and 16 years old. Her family has set up a GoFundMe page to help support her children and ease the financial burden on the family.

Maria Guadalupe Ramos Velasco's bravery and selflessness will not be forgotten.
